Independent Chinese Schools & the Spirit of Malaya 1961

The Perak State MB ought to rethink of his act in giving 1000 ha of state land to 9 Independent Chinese Schools. He seemed to forget the spirit of The Education Act and undo the deeds of Allahyarham Dato Rahman Talib and his committee in 1960.

Do we Malaysians really desire national unity? Do we really also cherish a national identity? Do we want to unite and keep up with the 21st century? The idea is to have a single school system that is still able to preserve languages and cultures of all Malaysians. So, the GREAT compromise - have a national secondary school system in one language of instruction and CONTINUE with the SRJK(C) and SRJK(T) in the primary school! Our forefathers really hope to establish a national school system for ALL Malayans then.

What the MB and his cabinet just did is to undo this attempt. Do we still need Independent schools today? Are these schools still teaching in Mandarin strongly or they have also used English language and adopted the national curriculum too? Why not just call them private, community schools? As far as I know students from these schools take English papers offered by Cambridge or the States and are studying in many English speaking countries. So is there still a need for them?

If they are private, community schools, then they ought to be treated like the SAR (Sekolah Agama Rakyat). Why treat them so special with land - grant for financial independence? If that is the case, then the Perak government need to be FAIR to the SAR too.

But frankly, I don't think this is in the best interest of the nation when you talk about national Unity. This is a reflection of weakness of you know who - make your own guess.
